How Can I? 01:55
how can I be so lost & so loved? how can I be so dependable & so out of place? how can I be so gifted & so empty-handed? how can I be so creative & so unproductive? how can I be so void of hope & so determined? how can I be so committed & so distracted? how can I be so self-indulgent & so ascetical? how can I be so blessed & so dissatisfied? how can I be so hollow & so giving? how can I be so compassionate & so alone?

Communio 01:02
marching half blind one eye on God one eye on the ground scanning for waste chanting the Psalms with Israel’s offspring in St. Gregory’s voice among shriveled souls pantomiming communio to an isolation playlist their own private siren Odysseus meets Apple courtesy of Eve

about

I got a text from Troy Welstad (Paper Castle, Wallflower People) - You up for doing some spoken word? I thought about it for 3 seconds & texted back - sure. In the 20-teens Troy was producing a show he called LabPDX. It was a gathering of artists & musicians, much like the Happenings of years past. They needed someone to do some spoken word to facilitate a light show produced by a specially designed mic. So, I gathered up just about every poem I had & drove to Portland. LabPDX was the cattle prod that jumpstarted my venture into spoken word poetry. They Applaud Politely, is a mini sampling of the poems written during the time of that genesis. It is only fitting then, that Troy’s keyboard magic should accompany me on this project. Yes, I said keyboard magic. Troy, with remarkable creative care, improvised the keys in the studio as I read. Just a few takes, & we were done. Thanks Troy for the donut runs, studio time, & for believing in my poetry.
